The Roussanne was sourced from our sustainably farmed, estate-grown Kyli's Vineyard. The Viognier was sourced from our neighbor's Lakeview Vineyard in the Sanel Valley. The harvest year of 2015 was marked by below average rainfall and an even growing season, yielding intensely concentrated fruit, particularly notable in, and favorable to, these Rhone Valley varietals. We began picking the Viognier on September 7 and finished with the Roussanne on September 28, 2015.
The grapes were whole-cluster pressed. The wine was barrel fermented with 50% of the juice in small stainless barrels and 50% in neutral French oak. (No malolactic fermentation.) The wine remained sur lie for three months with bi-monthly batonnage.
Medium gold in color, our 2015 Choir shows sun-ripened cling peach, juicy nectarine, and wild honeysuckle aromatics. The palate echoes those notes with a clean texture and laser-like exuberance that makes resisting a second glass almost impossible. With that in mind, this is certainly a wine that calls for sipping a glass or two in a hammock in the backyard. Or pair our Choir with fish tacos with a stone fruit salsa and Serrano peppers.
Blend Composition: 67% Viognier, 33% Roussanne
